Recap of Year 1: Changing Your Lens Blog

First, I want to thank you for reading this blog regularly as I am truly grateful.  I am humbled at the number of subscribers my blog has attracted during my first year and they continue to grow steadily. It all started over a year ago when University of Cincinnati, professor and innovator, Drew Boyd recommended that I create a blog to share my diverse experiences in business and technology leadership.  What I believed was such a stupid idea then, has become Changing Your Lens and something I truly enjoy now. Even having concluded my studies, I remain in touch with Drew and value his friendship and business mentoring.

I have learned quite a bit in my first year of blogging, and the main thing is that blogging takes work, and a commitment of time.  The one change you may notice in 2020 is that I have removed the comments that have been posted as well as restricted future ones.  The reason for this is moderating the comments, and trying to be prompt in responding became too time consuming. However, please continue to contact me regarding any specific topics you would like me to cover. No fees involved or strings attached.

One of the other things I have learned from this blog is that it has somewhat validated my belief shared in a previous article that “it is no longer who you know, but who knows you”.  I am grateful to continue to have new subscribers as they bring exposure to my blog and greater awareness of my leadership abilities. I will be making a concentrated effort on having more speaking engagements this year.

  • What plans do I have for this blog in 2020?

Guest Blogging – Over the past year I have learned a great deal about the blogging community and want to become more involved.  My first step is to be a guest blogger on other sites, as well as have some guest bloggers on this site as well. Please reach out to me if this interests you.

Expand to a few other categories – I have a few ideas here, so be on the lookout for these in the coming months.

Instant Translation to Spanish – In speaking to a few of my Spanish speaking subscribers, I learned they typically will have to copy my content over to Google Translate.  I have learned of a method to instantly translate the article, so I will work on rolling that out in the coming months as well. (UPDATE: All articles can now be instantly translated.)

More Integrated with Social Media – I haven’t been a huge fan of Twitter, but I find myself reading content derived from there more than my email.  I will be finding the best ways to distribute my blog content through social media channels.

Once again, thank you for a great first year!
